WHAT WE LOVE
A Traveling Spoon team member has visited this host. Our favorite parts of this experience:
So happy I began my Ulaanbataar trip with Bee & Soy. Truly lovely people that welcomed me into their home, told me about their community, about how they live & about the food they love. Bee met me in hotel reception as arranged, we took a ‘taxi’, a local bus, then a short walk backwards up a hill and arrived at their Ger. Had good conversation, cooked, ate with his family, & learnt about Mongolia. Thank you so much Bee & Soy
PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.
The excitement of this adventurous visit began with our bus ride out of the center of Ulanbaataar. On the way to Begzsuren’s home we saw how the locals lived by seeing a different way of life than what we had seen in the city. We made our way to his traditional Ger where his wife greeted us. Soon after, Begzsuren arrived with a kettle of water that he had gathered from the well up the hill from his home. Being inside the ger home was an incredible experience. We learned about how families live throughout the year. The ambience in Begzsuren’s home was very traditional and real. I felt as if I were in the middle of the gobi dessert with a nomadic family, which I loved. My favorite thing about the experience was being able to have lunch in a traditional Mongolian home.

I really had a wonderful and extraordinary experience with Bee and Soy. They are so warm, wise & intelligent and tauhgt me the traditional steamed dumpling and noodle soup systematically and in detail. Both 2 dishes were so good and I will try to make them my home. Bee told me many Mongolian tradition. After dinner, we played very interesting Mongolian traditional games with the sheep bones and Bee and Soy sang some Mongolian songs for me! It was very impressive that Bee knew some of Korean basic emotion. Thank you very much Bee & Soy and Travelingspoon, I had a really enjoyed that class!

We were at Bee and Soy house as a guests. They were really nice and shared with us everything they have. Thanks for your hospitality. - July 26, 2022
This was a wonderful experience. Be and Soy were delightful hosts. They were so unpretentious and hospitable, sharing their colorful and homey ger with us as if we were old friends. They cheerfully showed all the steps to making 2 traditional dishes from scratch, patiently allowing us to fumble along. Despite our amateurish assistance, the dishes turned out to be the best we've had.

Amazing cultural experience!
This was a great half day experience. Soy and Bee were the best hosts and it truly was a cultural experience. Also very close to UB city center.

Living organically in the 21st century
I had a great time visiting Bee & Soy in their traditional Mongolian house, ger and cook with them. Their ger is compact but, cleverly made; have a fridge, electric oven, Soy’s sawing machine and a sink with a cute contraption made from a cut up plastic bottle for hand washing. The stove sits in the center of the room and dried “horse poop” plus wood is used for fuel (some smoke but not smelly). They gather the horse poop themselves, they said.
Soy showed me how to hold buuz (steamed dumplings like gyoza). I learned a new one.
Their life style seems simple, yet economical and close to nature, very organic and wasting very little. It was an eye-opener for me. Wish them good luck for continuing to show their life style with people from all over the world.

Highly recommended
I had a fantastic evening with Bee and his family. He picked me up at my hotel and we travelled to the suburbs of Ulaanbaatar. The view from Bee’s Ger was great and it was interesting to cook and eat delicious Mongolian food. Bee spoke excellent English and was enthusiastic and entertaining. He also taught me how to play Mongolian games with the Ankle Bones. After dinner we headed back into Ulaanbaatar by bus which was interesting as I’d not used public transport in Ulaanbaatar until then.

Fantastic experience of traditional Mongolian life and cooking with friendly and welcoming hosts.
Bee met me in person and we travelled to his ger (tent home) to the north of UB city centre. There, he and his wife welcomed me into their beautiful ger and were enthusiastic to tell me all about Mongolian life and culture, to learn about my life and interests, and to share some cooking and food with me. We enjoyed homemade snacks and tea whilst chatting. Then I was shown how to make a traditional Mongolian "closed" soup, which we ate together once it was cooked (delicious!). Finally, I was shown how to make steamed dumplings and we made a large batch together; we ate some once they were cooked, and I was presented with a jar full to take with me for later. Bee accompanied me back to my accommodation in the city.

Magical opportunity to cook with a typical Mongolian family
Karissa_H, Jul 2023
Bee and Soy gave me an authentic experience and fantastic memories. Their communication before the class was great. The cooking was really fun and I learned so much about Mongolian culture and food.
Great hosts and authentic experience!
YuenSang_C, May 2023
It was truly a local and authentic experience. My hosts Soy and Bee reached out to me to confirm details once I have booked and they were punctual on the day itself. I learnt to make local dishes from scratch and they were extremely patient with me. I was also able to see a part of town where many locals live as opposed to the touristy part in the main city centre. This tour offers valuable insight into the real ger life and I would highly recommend this for those who are interested in the real local culture.
Kind and generous hosts made me feel welcome in their home

Bee and Soy made me feel so welcome in their home. I was grateful they could accommodate my vegetarian diet. Not only was the food delicious, but I learned so much about Mongolian culture and traditions. Bee also walked me around the neighborhood after lunch. This was my favorite experience in Mongolia.

Marvelous man picked me up from Downtown. Showed us all he knows. Open hearted supple mind. Great food.
Very nice lunch and great time spent with local hosts
DrissAig, Nov 2019
Bee and Soye have been very welcoming hosts. The food was great, I am vegetarian and they adapted the meal for me. Bee picked me up at my hotel, we walked a bit in the center and he gave me a lot of information about the city (which was not supposed to be in the tour). Along the afternoon, Bee told me many stories about Mongolian culture and history. He was also very interested to know more about me. I very recommend this visit for people who want to me local people and eat good Mongolian food. It was a great way to start my visit in the country. Driss
Cooking Class

Had a great time prepping and cooking food with Be and Soyon. They couldn't have been better hosts. We made traditional Mongolian soup and dumplings. They tried to educate me on the history and culture of the Mongolian people. I learned so much and would highly recommend this experience to anyone.
Best thing I've done in UB!
Relax31017674743, Oct 2019
I came to make dumplings and left having made friends! Bege and Soyo's ger was warm and cosy on a cool night. We did make and eat dumplings but were sidetracked by discussions of nutrition, traditional methods of cooking, eating and cleaning up, changes in Mongolia over the last 30 years and much more. They were so accommodating of my vegetarian diet and about as interested in my way of life as I was of their's. An absolute highlight of my trip.
Have you had the Mongolian cooking class with Bee and Soy family?
