2008.9.13 #MongoliaFriend Jesse and Rotem from Israel

Watson's grant to do research http://www.watsonfellowship.org/site/fellows/08_09.html

Couchsurfers book 1

6th guest Jesse Lockard and Rotem Linial (Jerusalem, Israel)
Date : 13/09/2008

To the lucky Couchsurfer who stayed with this amazing family : It seems reduntant to repeat - But this house and this family and truly wonderful, generous and sweet and we learned more from them during our stay than we can begin to say.
The kids are very sweet - they do indeed love scary faces and any slapstick you can perform. They also love crafts - paper cutting, drawing etc. - and Todo - just give him a pen or pencil and a piece of paper and look at one of the most talented kids we have ever met - If you can ask him to draw your portrait - he will generously give it to you at the end - a wonderful souvenire we will keep forever.
Also if the weather is nice tire yourself out with a hybrid soccer / handball game in the yard.

As for travelling advice in Mongolia - we just returned from the Gobi - it was wonderful - but we ended up spending far too much time in the van -make sure you put aside enough time to walk around 10 days to the Gobi (all the way to the dunes and back) allowed only one full day off the van - also if you don’t speak Mongolian try to plan your route slowly and carefully with a translator - take your time to do this!!
A wonderful treat while on the road is a ride on the roof of the van - ask your driver - hold on tight and enjoy the glorious views of Mongolia.
One last bit of advice - Bring your own music - get tape cassettes in Ulaanbaatar for the road - we had only one tape, that we came to love in the end but it was a bit much for 10 whole days. Other than that just enjoy your time with these great people, talk, laugh, play, eat and learn from them.
Enjoy Mongolia and good luck in your travels
